Apart from being an accomplished beater of stuff with sticks, and lyricist for Rush, Neil Peart has published several books, as seen below. You could argue that the reason I like Neil's books is that I was predisposed to as a Rush fan. I would argue back that, perhaps, I am a Rush fan because of the writing qualities Neil posses, that first manifested themselves through lyrics.
What I like most about Neil's writing is the way he communicates everyday thoughts, reactions and observations. In short, he writes like the way, I believe, most of us think. It's less like you are reading an account, and more like you are listening to him retell some day in his life.
I would not dare to be so presumptive as to say I feel like I know Neil Peart, but through excruciating adventures in Africa, loss and complete despair, rediscovery of a lifetime by music, and a "tour in the life of a drummer", I can at least appreciate what he has felt, and the powerful images his words invoke.
In short, long live Stewie Griffen!
